The Effect of Community Violence on Threat Processing in Low-SES Adults

Objective:
The major goal of this application is to investigate the relationship between community violence and responses to threat among adults living in higher risk and lower resource communities. We will use a multi-method approach that includes behavioral and neural (i.e., fMRI) measures to:

  1. Assess differential responses to stimuli that vary with respect to valence (negative, neutral) and type of threat (general, environment-specific)
  2. Characterize the mechanisms underlying the processing of environment-specific threats and how they are influenced by exposure to violence
