Objective:
The primary goal of this project is to assess the early impact of HVIP on trauma patients presenting in New Brunswick who have been impacted by firearm related violence by surveying two cohorts of patients: the first cohort being those who experienced firearm related iolence prior to the initiation of HVIP as compared to those who experienced after. The goals are to determine follow-up to community programs before and after HVIP and to compare outcomes across both cohorts outcomes being: employment/return to work or school, establishment of safe rousing, access to insurance assistance programs, access to funds for victims of violence, mental health services, and recidivism). Secondary aims include (1) an assessment of the subset of patients affected by firearm related violence after initiation of RWJ HVIP who declined enrollment in the program and why (2) an assessment of the subset of patients affected by firearm related violence who enrolled with HVIP but were lost to follow up or were unable to connect to community programs to better understand now to improve future efforts and (3) the creation of a dataset and framework or future research to continue evaluating our HVIP to optimize its operation.
