Characterizing Suicide Risk States and Their Transitions Among Firearm Owners
Objective:
This research project aims to deepen our understanding of how suicide risk develops, fluctuates, and evolves over time among firearm owners. By identifying and characterizing distinct risk states—as well as the factors that influence transitions between them—this study seeks to inform more targeted, timely, and effective suicide prevention strategies.
Through data-driven analysis and behavioral modeling, the research explores how access to firearms intersects with mental health, personal stressors, and life events to impact suicide vulnerability. The goal is to generate insights that support personalized interventions and evidence-based policies that reduce firearm-related suicides while respecting the complexities of firearm ownership.
