Firearm Storage Practice Among Military Service Members with Suspected Traumatic Brain Injury

Objective:
In this study, we found that National Guardsmen who screened positive were more likely than their peers to store their firearms loaded and in a non-secure location. Furthermore, the more severe a service member's TBI, the greater the odds that they stored their firearm unsafely. This indicates that individuals suffering from TBI - a group vulnerable to suicide - tend to have more ready access to firearms.
