Protective Environments: Military Community Engagement to Prevent Firearm-Related Violence (PROtECT: Promoting Responsible Ownership and Elevating Community Togetherness)
Objective:
In this grant, a team of researchers, including the GVRC, is utilizing community-based participatory research methods to adapt Project Safe Guard, a lethal means counseling intervention first tested by the GVRC (Anestis et al., 2021; American Journal of Public Health). The adaptations include adjusting the focus to the prevention of all forms of gun violence (vs only suicide), training non-healthcare providers to
deliver the treatment, and adapting to specific cultural demands of Buckley Space Force Base.
