Safety Planning for High Risk Lethality of Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence Survivors
Project Description:
Domestic violence (DV) and intimate partner violence (IPV) cross all socioeconomic, gender, age, and racial/ethnicity factors that affects millions of people in the US and worldwide every year.
This project aims to assess the institutional response to DV and IPV safety planning, in particularly, high risk lethality indicators (i.e., pregnancy, postpartum, access to guns, guns in the home, escalation of violence, etc.). Review of safety planning tools, procedures/protocols, agency training, and education of DV service providers will be conducted to identify whether or not institutional responses enhance or diminish the safety of the victim. Education will be tailored based on the findings and will be provided to service providers and the community as needed. With domestic violence homicides on the rise, it is paramount that the institutional response to safety is taking into account high risks indicators when developing and communicating a safety plan.
