Identification of Health Risk Factors for Firearm Injury

Objective:
To identify health care settings in which primary or secondary firearm violence prevention efforts should be focused on. We hypothesize that there may be specific health risks (e.g. asthma, dental emergencies) more prevalent in gunshot wound victims than victims of other traumas due to socioeconomic factors. If these health risks can be identified, public health efforts to reduce gun violence could target patients in those specific healthcare settings (e.g. asthma clinics, dental clinics).
