Dr. Kunac currently serves as a trauma Surgeon and Surgical Intensivist at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark and also as Director for the General Surgery Residency training program. She is board certified in General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Her most recent research projects include: understanding the factors that contribute to urban firearm recidivism, teaching residents fundamental principles related to trauma-informed care, and teaching residents to manage mass casualty incidents. She has previously received foundation grants for work related to optimizing physician-patient communication and establishing goals of care in trauma patients.
